Indian Reservations

Indian reservations are owned by the government. This is land that has been reserved for the use of federally recognized Native Americans.

You don't own a room at the hotel you make your reservation at do you? Of course not. The same principal applies to the Indian reservations. This land is owned by the government. Some nations have been given the right to police their reserves with their own police forces. They may build on the land and even pass their homes down to their children. But the land ownership is still retained by the government.

The only land that indian people own, is the land they have purchased. That means they paid money for it or it may have been donated with a free and clear title. That land then falls under whatever police control and laws it is in, just as any other land owner.
